Hello and welcome!

Thanks for stoping by! That's me, and my super cute and spunky 1 year old, Nora. When we're not laying on the floor taking selfies, we also like to bake, take lots of pretty photos, and practice yoga. Aside from posting way too many pictures of Nora on instagram, I also take pretty wedding picures and make pretty baby items. So browse around, and keep up with all the latest.

So, I debated on whether or not I should post this as my favorite thing for May because it’s a little racy, but if I didn’t post what I’m totally crazy about, this whole “Favorite Things” idea would be fake and that’s not what I want. I want my readers and my clients to know me a little bit better, to see what I’m like as a person and not just a photographer. So, this might make me a few friends, and this might make me a few enemies… but I don’t care because this months “favorite thing” is totally superficial. Sometimes you just need a little guilty pleasure in life, you know?

We never had HBO growing up… in fact, Greg and I don’t even have HBO *now* (we barely watch tv I don’t even know why we pay so much for it each month!!!) So, I guess you could say I’ve never watched “those” kinds of shows. Well, not until boxed sets came out :)

My friend Catherine has the complete box set of Sex and the City on DVD, and we recently started watching the show right from the very beginning, from the pilot episode. One of my favorite things to do is watch a whole series that I never really caught when it was airing. I think it’s that instant gratification thing; I don’t have to wait a week to find out what happens on the next episode. I don’t have to wait months to find out what happens on the next season premiere. And I don’t have to be tethered to the tv, I can just watch it when it’s convenient for me.

I’m totally hooked now and can’t wait to see if Carrie ends up with Big, or Aiden… If Charlotte and Trey eventually have babies, if Miranda and Steve ever figure it out and just end up together already, and well… Samantha… I’m assuming she’ll always be … Samantha ;). We’re about half way through the series now (just started season 4) and when we finish the series, we’re going to watch the movies too. I know, totally girly, totally superficial, but I don’t care… it’s totally *fabulous!*

A short while ago, I attended a seminar hosted by Justin and Mary Marantz . It was an all day MARATHON of information for you and your business. They happen to be extremely amazing and wildly successful wedding photographers here in CT, but really, this seminar is for any business owner who wants to take hold of their career and really make it succeed. I mean *really.* Because, man have they lived. And man, have they experienced. And they are willing to take the time to [metaphorically] sit down with you and lay it all out. In black and white. Right there. And what they have to say is incredibly inspiring.

I get it now… who they are. Why they do what they do. And now… its so easy to see what makes them so successful. It isn’t a specific product that *they* buy and use. It isn’t a *specific* time of day or day of the week that they devote to their business that makes them rock. It isn’t something tangible. Nope, its something so much more important. Its their love. For each other, for their business, for what they photograph. And let me tell you, its inspiring.

Man I must sound like a sponsor for them or something right!? Honestly, I’m just that motivated and that inspired to take what I learned from them and infuse it into my business. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might make all the difference.

So what does a Spread the Love Seminar from Justin and Mary Marantz have to do with my Favorite Things for April? Nothing, really, except that they gave me a wake up call to probably my most favoritest thing in the whole wide world EVER. J. Crew

Part of J & M’s talk revolves around Lovemarks. If you don’t know what a Lovemark is, you should head over to Amazon (or your favorite book store) and pick up this book. Or if you’re particularly monetary challenged (like me at the moment), just google “Lovemarks.” You’ll get plenty of info there. :) And for those of you who just can’t stand to click away from my amazingly awesome post, in a nutshell, a Lovemark is simply, loyalty beyond reason. It’s why someone might drive 20 minutes out of her way and pass 3 dunkin donuts to buy a starbucks coffee every morning. It’s why someone might walk around an entire mall for 2 hours looking for a new pair of pants for a very important workshop only to find her self in J Crew, spending 3x as much for something she found in a handful of other stores but just didn’t purchase. Its a feeling.

Which brings me to my Favorite Thing for April. J. Crew. Yes, I walked around the Westfarms mall last week for 2 hours before purchasing a new pair of black pants for the workshop I attended (more on that to come later so stay tuned!). Yes, I spent probably 3x as much as I could have if I had just bought pants in H&M or Charlotte Russe. But did I care? No. Should I have? Maybe. But I didn’t. Because when I walk into J. Crew I like how I feel. I like that the store attendants greet you, but in a non pushy, non in-your-face kind of way. I like that someone was at the fitting rooms, just out of the way so as not to be intrusive, ready to grab me another size because the pair I tried on didn’t fit right. I like that they wrap your purchase up in soft tissue paper and seal it with a nice J. Crew sticker before gently placing it in your *paper* shopping bag (huge for me, I’m all about the environment!). I like how I feel when I shop there. And therefore, I have a Lovemark with J. Crew. Reason would say, go spend a third on pants at H&M, but my Lovemark for J. Crew keeps me coming back. How’s that for marketing? I think its pretty damn genius.

So tell me, what are your Lovemarks? Where do you feel loyal, beyond reason?

I’ve always been a very active person, but over the last few years its become harder and harder to find the time to work out. The spring, summer and early fall are great for hiking, bike ridding, and jogging, but once the cold winters come, its nearly impossible to get outside. I don’t know about you, but when its 18 degrees outside it literally hurts my lungs to breathe.

So I was so excited when my mother-in-law got me an *awesome* elliptical for my birthday. Its amazing and definitely my favorite thing lately! I like the elliptical for a few reasons.

1. We set it up upstairs in our home office, which has plenty of space. I can work out and watch TV, play games on my iPhone, or just read while I work out which is great and really makes the time fly by.
2. Its quiet. I don’t know how many of you have ever worked out on a treadmill, but those things are noisy! The elliptical is really quite silent, and that’s great for so many obvious reasons!
3. Its low impact. I don’t have “problems” with my knees, but its always a good thing when you can work out and keep the impact on your joints to a minimum. I love to run (outside), and I find the elliptical to be a suitable backup for rainy/cold days when I just can’t get outside.

How do *you* like to stay fit when the weather is too cold to get outside??

Happy February! This is a great month for a couple of reasons:
1. Its my birthday month, which up until recently has always been a very exciting day for me. As I get older, I look forward to my birthday less and less though. :sigh: At least I get to make Greg do stuff for me on my birthday, like the dishes, and laundry. ;)
2. Its the shortest month of the whole year, which happens to fall in the season I like the *least*… winter! That means, we’re getting closer and closer to my *favorite* season… SUMMER! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we are approaching a slow end to this miserable and snow filled winter, and it can’t come soon enough.

This winter has been so cold that one thing I’ve been living on religiously is tea. A cup of delicious steaming ti quan yin on a cooooold wintry night is so wonderful.

February Favorite 2011

I loooooove tea. Like some people need a cup of coffee in the morning to function, I need tea. I love to try new teas from all over the world and I’ve tasted some pretty amazing ones this winter. My absolute favorite tea is oolong, and my most favoritest place to buy tea from lately is from the great people over at Harney & Son’s. They find some truly fantastic tea for a reasonable price. There are a couple of other companies I’ve bought tea from, but Harney’s is my favorite. I love their packaging, I love their gift sets, and their tea is just delicious! They travel the world in search of the best tea, and I believe their palette is very distinguished – they don’t mess around.

Not only is tea delicious, but its so good for you, too. Tea has so many good for you antioxidants, and less caffeine than coffee per cup so it is good for those of you who have a hard time with high levels of caffeine, like me. Tea is also great for your complexion, and can help you stick to your diet, too (green tea is a mild appetite suppressant). Now, if you’re thinking: I’ve steeped a bag of lipton tea before, and there aint nothing so great about it.

I’ll let you in on a little secret. The really good stuff? Loose leaf tea. I know, it sounds all pretentious and high maintenance, but its not, really! Its not for lazy people, that’s for sure, and to really honestly get the most out of loose leaf tea, you really *should* follow the directions and brew the water to the proper temperature, and steep the leaves for the recommended amount of time. And if you do, I promise you, you’ll never go back to a bag of lipton again, I guarantee it!

If you ever need some good recommendations on what kind of tea to buy, hit me up! I’m always eager to talk tea :)

Happy New Year everyone! I’m kicking off 2011 with my first of what I hope to be a monthly blog topic entitled “My Favorite Things” where I’ll share a little something I’m particularly crazy about/ in love with. My goal is to help you all get to know me a little better. Over the last year I’ve been researching how to become a full streamed pro photographer, and I’ve noticed that keeping it real, and being personal are a huge part of many photographers brands. Its definitely not for everyone, I know that, but the photographers who I idolize and look up to all seem to do really well by just being themselves. Plain and simple. And I think this will really work for me, because that’s just who I am. I’m simple, I dont have a lot of tricks up my sleeve, and I like to keep it real.

You can look forward to a fresh new installment of “My Favorite Things” every 1st of the month, and what better month in 2011 to start it all off than with January!

By far, my most favorite thing this Holiday Season was shopping at Pottery Barn.

I *love* love love Pottery Barn. Especially the above duvet cover which unfortunately is pretty much all sold out unless you have a twin sized bed, which I upgraded from a long time ago :(.

I have my whole dream house planned out, from my home office to my bathroom, and it all comes from Pottery Barn. Ok well, maybe not everything, but if I could, I’d totally redecorate our house using PB. I know its totally trendy and maybe even a bit fopish (especially their bedding), but I don’t care, I love it!
