Hello and welcome!

Thanks for stoping by! That's me, and my super cute and spunky 1 year old, Nora. When we're not laying on the floor taking selfies, we also like to bake, take lots of pretty photos, and practice yoga. Aside from posting way too many pictures of Nora on instagram, I also take pretty wedding picures and make pretty baby items. So browse around, and keep up with all the latest.

At the end of the summer, my dad’s side of the family made a trip out from Pennsylvania for a little family get together/reunion. As always, there was too much delicious food and wonderful desserts (including a to die for red velvet cake that my Aunt Linda made!!!). We don’t get to see them very often, so it was so so nice to get together for the weekend. As luck would have it, the weather was perfect (both for pictures and swimming!), and we were able to sit for a really perfect family portrait! I know most people (photographers) cringe when they hear white shirts and blue jeans, but with this many people, I just thought it would look really clean and classic, and you know what, I love it. I love the 1992 feel the group photo has. And I love that everyone was able to make the look their own by throwing on some cute accessories.

Here is part two of the Walk Through a Wedding Workshop I attended in NYC at the end of March, hosted by the fabulous Justin and Mary Marantz.

After we learned all about setting up the detail shots, we moved onto the portraits of a wedding. J&M shared some of their “go-to” shots (some fail safe poses in case you get into a posing funk), as well as their approach to taking portraits during the wedding day. We then broke into groups and practiced alllll of the techniques we learned that day. As the light was fading, we also experimented with OCF. Since the theme of this WTAW workshop was Newsies and Knickerbockers, we tried some dramatic “old Hollywood glam” type of lighting. It was definitely something new for me, and I’m looking forward to practicing more. This definitely wasn’t my typical style of shooting, but I learned a lot and I really like

Kathryn and Peter, our real life couple turned models were just too cute and so awesome that day! They smiled, posed, smiled some more, and just oozed cuteness all day long! They were such troopers and I think we all got some results that are pretty awesome!!

A little behind the scenes shot :)

Recently, my very good friend Catherine, and two of my sister’s (in law) posed for me in a very impromptu bridal shoot. The idea I had was for a very whimsical, organic shoot. A field, some wild flowers, and pops of pretty summer colors were floating through my head.

I love when I can capture in my camera exactly what I picture in my head. I often have fantastical ideas that are difficult to produce in real life. This could be because my ideas are just so disorganized and all over the place, or because I’m still figuring out how to materialize these visions in pictures, but either way its such a good feeling when it translates exactly. So I was totally psyched when I uploaded these pics. They were, well, awesome. It certainly helps that all three of these ladies are beyond gorgeous and totally camera friendly. They were also naturals in front of the camera, which makes my job soooo much easier!

A big huge thank you to my girls!! They braved the chilly late afternoon air in little dresses to help me out. They are so awesome!! If anyone wants to sign up for my next styled shoot, I have TONS of ideas, so just shoot me an email! :)

Seriously, how gorgeous are these girls!? TOO gorgeous!

Dana and Claire are tooooo cute! Love them!

A little sneak behind the scenes. These girls were troopers! Catherine climbed up on this wall, which was just about as tall as them… in a wedding dress!!!

Here is a quick sneak peek of a SUPER fun bridal portrait session I did a week ago. A big huge THANK YOU to Catherine, Claire and Dana for posing for me on a very chilly Saturday afternoon. We were totally chilled to the bone by the end of the shoot, but I think it was totally worth it! Stay tuned for the full post of gorgeous pics of these beautiful ladies to come next week!

The last few days of March were spent learning from some of my most favorite photographers in the whole wide world! Justin & Mary Marantz are an incredible husband and wife photography team who are touring the country this year, visiting various cities and speaking about what makes them… well… them! If you don’t know who they are, hop on over to their site and spend a few minutes reading their stuff. You’ll very quickly see just who they are, and you will fall in love!

They are the *kindest* most genuinely sweet people you’ll meet. All they want to do is share their story, their talents, and help people succeed. How amazing is that!?

A Walk Through a Wedding workshop with Justin and Mary is an ALL DAY intensive shooting workshop. They teach us how they approach a wedding day, from start to finish, and then they let us experiment on the canvas they’ve set up for us. They set up an amazing spread, complete with models who wear beautiful dresses and carry bouquets! And then there are the details! There is not a single stone unturned when it comes to the details of this wedding day.

Since there are just wayyyyy too many pictures to share all at once, this first post will showcase all of the amazing details from the day. Enjoy!

A couple of weeks ago I attended a mini retreat style conference known as Inspire Boston. The 3 day intimate workshop conference is hosted by the fabulous and extremely kind hearted husband and wife team Matt and Enna Grazier of Grazier Photography. I was first and foremost blown away by the fact that this was only the second year of this conference, but it was so amazingly organized and planned out. I mean, there were coffee and tea available *all times of the day*!!! Amazing.

But what was really honestly the most amazing thing about this conference were the speakers. They all took time out of their busy schedules to come to Concord MA and speak to a bunch of photographers and tell us all what makes them so successful. What makes them so great. And it was eye opening… for a few reasons:

A. We got to learn about their work flow, their style, their methods; all things that help to make them so successful at what they do. That in and of itself is so valuable.

B. We got to see just how kind and open these people are. How much they want to see their peers, their friends… but even more, their “competition” succeed. (And I put competition in quotes because honestly, with this group of people, we’re not… not really. We’re just a friend that we can refer a client to when we can’t book them, or a friend we can call on when we need help and can’t figure it out). How about that? When was the last time you saw a car salesman sharing his “trade secrets” to the rookie who is just starting out, not a clue what he’s doing or where to go from here? Its pretty powerful, the act of sharing.

And really, that was the theme for the week at Inspire. Separately, we’re all pretty good and we’re all, in one way shape and form, surviving (in some capacity). We all have something to offer and we’re here. But together… together we create something great. A network of friends, peers, companions. We learn, we teach, we share, we refer, we coach, we grow.

And that is pretty powerful. The act of sharing is powerful. And I am so thankful for the opportunity to walk away from Inspire Boston with so many ideas, so much info, and especially so *inspired.*

Matt and Enna, thank you so much for organizing such a wonderful event! It has changed my life for the better!

And since no post is complete without a pic, here are a few that I snapped while there. Most of the conference was spent diligently note-taking and not much picture taking occurred. I *did* take an awesome workshop with Amber and Eric Langlois of Raw Photo Design where I learned some awesome off camera flash techniques! It was really neat to see flash in such fun light. Normally I prefer the soft golden tones of natural sunlight, but you can do some amazingly cool things with OCF and it was great to learn some of their techniques.

This past weekend some of my family came to visit as we did typical fall-like things. Hiking has become a favorite pastime of mine lately, and I took my sister and nephew up Sleeping Giant State Park for some pretty views of Hamden, CT. It was a beautiful day!

You could just start to see the leaves changing color. Hints of red were popping up here and there. In a few weeks, this will all be beautiful shades of reds, oranges, and yellows.

The tower at the top of the tower trail at Sleeping Giant Park.

My sister went to take a peek at the view through the brush. There are tons of look out points that offer great views of the surrounding towns.

We also went to the Durham fair, where my nephew really enjoyed seeing all the alpaca, sheep, cows, and chickens! Durham puts out a great fair every year and my parents just love coming up here to go to it, especially my dad.

There was a huge barn with all sorts of crafting going on, and there was this guy making the most beautiful cabinet, I wanted it so badly! I have a love of hand made furniture. Almost all of the wood furniture in our house was bought in Lancaster County, PA from the Amish. They craft such beautiful things, all from solid hard wood. This furniture will be in our family for many years, and you just can’t beat the quality of this furniture. I highly recommend taking a trip out to see the Amish (and Mennonite) if you’re in the market for new furniture. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

This gentleman was very talented in wood working, and my dad quickly struck up a conversation with him as he was working (as my dad has a love of woodwork, too!).

There was also this guy, who was a blacksmith of some sorts. He was making a really pretty flower with the metal.

There were a lot of tractors, and old farm equipment all over the place, too.

Just as we were getting ready to leave, after a long day of walking and seeing so many neat farmy things, I spotted some giant pumpkins. GIANT. These guys were over 1000 lbs. Wowza. I wonder how many pumpkin-flavored goodies could be made from one of these…

With Labor Day come and gone, I sat and thought about my summer, and what a great summer it was. I spent a tremendous amount of time with my sister and nephew and the rest of my family back in New York. I love to go back and see them; we always have such a great time playing card games and sitting around the bonfire at night making s’mores. It’s one of the things I love most about summer (along with going to the beach!)

This winter I plan to spend a lot of time planning out my 2011 and what I want to try and achieve, professionally. I still have a lot of work to do on this blog, and on my main website, and I hope to have it all mostly done by the beginning of winter so that I can focus on networking.
