Hello and welcome!

Thanks for stoping by! That's me, and my super cute and spunky 1 year old, Nora. When we're not laying on the floor taking selfies, we also like to bake, take lots of pretty photos, and practice yoga. Aside from posting way too many pictures of Nora on instagram, I also take pretty wedding picures and make pretty baby items. So browse around, and keep up with all the latest.

Sunday evening, after the bulk of the rain and wind of Hurricane Irene passed through CT, Greg and I got in the car and decided we’d try to check on the family’s beach house down in East Haven. We heard Cosey Beach Ave. was hit pretty hard, and that there was a lot of damage out there, but we never expected to find what we did…

The road was closed and the National Guard was walking up and down the street, checking out the wreckage (a.k.a. the houses that lined the coast). As we made our way through the side streets in knee high water, we could only get as close as the opposite side of Carolina Creek, but didn’t dare wade across, for fear of getting yelled at by the big men in army pants and guns strapped to their thighs… so we hung back a bit, and I used my zoom lens to grab some pics. At first glance, it looked to be mostly cosmetic damage to the house we have come to love and cherish for the last few years.

You see, Cosey Beach is more then just a house to us. It’s a place of so many great memories that we Cucinelli’s have created over the years. It’s a place we get together and have way too much delicious food to eat just because it’s Saturday. It’s a place we get together to laugh, to share in life’s good times. It’s a place to enjoy each others company, to create beautiful sewing projects, to spend time with new family members (like my beautiful niece Julia… check her out here!) and old (I’m not sayin’ who’s “old” I’m just sayin’) …

But when Greg’s oldest Brother, Chris, snuck into the house Sunday evening, he captured a few pics (before getting kicked out by the Guard) that told the true story of what happened when Irene reared her ugly head upon Cosey Beach Ave. This morning, they all trekked down to asses the damage to the house. It’s pretty bad, but the good news is that the street was rightfully evacuated before the storm hit, no one was home when the worst of it blew through, and no one, not a single soul living on Cosey Beach Ave, was hurt. That’s some serious good blessing, right there!

These next three are interiors of the neighbors houses… which are, as you can see, in considerably worse shape then ours. :(

Again, at least no one was hurt. Everyone on Cosey Beach ave was evacuated Saturday, and though the cleanup and rebuilding will take a long time, we can at least feel good about the fact that a few nick nacks and furniture were the only things lost to this crazy storm…

Wow! These pictures are amazing! The damage is terrible. I feel bad for them. At least no one was hurt and everyone got out in time. It is amazing what power can lay behind some wind and water!

      I know! For only being a cat. 1 storm… some serious damage…

Amazing photos as always. Sorry about the damage, but glad everyone is alright.

I see the Crock that I bought Jane and Anthony is still in tack and I can still read “Welcome Cucinelli’s” We will be there again. Dinner on Sunday? Pam and I think we should all get together and go out to eat. We are not going to let Irene break up the Beach House Clan!

I think we should definitely do dinner Sunday evening! And dessert (what would sunday be without dessert!?) Where should we go??

The Pirateology book now looks like it might have legitimately been recovered from a sunken pirate ship from the 17th century. And that’s a good look for Greg with the jeans rolled up to his knees.

Also, in the 9th picture on the left; does that rock have eyes or am I crazy?

If you need any help hauling out garbage/rubble let me know. Good to see the pool table survived.

Thanks! And I did notice the eyes in that pic,… kinda creepy! We will let you know if we need help… it looks like a big mess out there!

I think the eyes are 2 pipes sticking out of the chunk of cement…but creepy never-the-less, yes!
I love the poor broken-legged porcelain figurine…with the eerily serene look on the face that is looking back behind her for help…yikes!!! That is a really good shot for a story there… It gave me goose-bumps!

It looks like pipes, I think you’re right! And that doll is pretty much the epitome of the beach house now… mostly broken but still standing (or leaning, in her case lol).

Don’t worry everyone–we will rebuild without a problem. It will be redone within 6 months or less. However, I don’t know how the rest of the street will look by then. It’s going to be a long road back.

The bathing beauty with no legs will be put back on the mantle as a place of honor. Unfortunately we can’t find the beautiful picture of the house that you painted that also adorned our mantle, but we haven’t given up looking for it yet!!

I feel so bad for the neighbors… for Dino… they had so much damage! I feel like with the painting, a part of me went missing in the storm too… but if we don’t ever find it beneath all the mess, I’ll paint a new one… a BIGGER and better one! :)

Michelle, it’s so sad to see this! I felt like we all had good memories over there. I have so many photos of that house… I hope Greg’s Family is able to fix any damage. I’ll pray for all of you guys. <3

Thanks Liz! Its coming along, it will be good as new eventually! :)
